What we offer.
Maukemana style trips are flexible ways to see the world. We have a start and an end point and loads of things to see, do and experience in between!!

Our trips are flexible so that they maximise the things you want to see; minimise the things you've seen enough of; and make the most of your time with us. They're authentic, challenging, interesting and, above all, fun!

What's a travel mentor?
A Travel Mentor is an experienced traveller that leads your trip. They offer advice, support and tips on travelling to help you be safer, have more fun and make greater adventures. Everything that they're experts at!

Travel Mentors don’t like to follow any set route. They’re not tour guides. They give independent travel designed to fit your needs and your desires. You go where you want to - when you want and how you want. When one phase of your travel is over ... and you’re ready … just move onto the next. Your travel mentor is there every step of the way.

How do our adventures work?
1. Assemble the group - Maukemana assembles budding travellers into groups (usually no more than 6) of like minded, similar people with similar outlooks. You’re definitely not just thrown together. This gives the best basis for sharing and enjoying the experiences that are to come. You’ll begin your adventure (that’s right… it is YOUR adventure) with travel buddies before you even leave home.

2. Meet the group and discuss - You’ll be invited to meet your group and your Travel Mentor before you leave home in the Maukemana Travel Online Group Forum. It’s important to ask questions of your Mentors – safe travel is about preparation. If they know the answer (and they probably will) they’ll tell you. They’ve spent a long time learning and they’re keen to both impress and pass the knowledge on.

3. Get to your start point - Your Mentor will meet you in person at your start point. This is usually at the airport in the destination country and they’ll get you to your first accommodation. As group members arrive you’ll all meet up. Your Mentor will make some recommendations about where to go for the first few days ... although you’ll already have a plan from using the Travel Forum before getting out there.

4. Go travelling - There’s no set itinerary. The Travel Mentor is as flexible as you and will help you get on the move, buy tickets, find accommodation, sort out routes, be safer, buy food in restaurants and street stalls. They’ll help you find things you forgot to bring and make sure that you’re ok. They’re there for you. To lead, then to guide, then to follow. As your confidence at travel grows we think you’ll find that you become a full independent traveller.

5. Learn lots - This learning all takes place while you’re travelling so you’ll have real situations in which to try different solutions with the Travel Mentor on hand to help. This, we believe, is the best and long term safest way to get into travel. With us you learn by living!

6. Continue your adventure – At the end of your trip you’ll most likely feel ready to go your own way. That’s what we want – we’ll have taught you well. If at the end of the trip you decide that you’re having too much fun too leave us that's fine. Just join another Travel Mentor trip and go somewhere completely new as you continue travelling!!

Special Trips
How do our adventures work?
Our special trips work in a similar way to our adventures. The difference is that our Travel Mentors sort accommodation and transport for you, allowing you to really relax as you go. Our Travel Mentors love doing this and you'll really reap the benefits of their experience of getting the most out of destinations and our contacts that we have along the routes we travel. They're still flexible and still amazing. YOu'll never believe the way they make the most of time available until you give them a go!
